Design Concept
After a trip to South Africa in 2000 I was fascinated by the patterns
of spots on giraffes. Rather than make a literal picture of giraffes,
I borrowed their spot patterns and used them in this abstract design.
I had fun playing with the colors in my "Gradations" and
"Splash" lines of fabric from Benartex. The quilting in
the spots is done with 30 weight polyester threads from my Brytes
collection by Superior Threads. The pattern is reminiscent of cobblestones
or alligator skin. The background quilting was done with very fine
Bottom Line thread which matches the background color.
