Design Concept

Bradford Fantasy #3 is a new version of my 2013 quilt, Bradford Fantasy #1, which was inspired by the colorful Bradford pear leaves found near my former home in Paducah, KY. The quilt top is a digital painting, based on a photograph of the unquilted pieced top of Bradford #1. The digital painting was done in Corel Photopaint on the touch screen of my Microsoft Surface Design Studio computer. It was digitally printed by Spoonflower.com. The free-motion quilting was done with many different colors of polyester and acrylic top-stitching thread in shades that are similar to the colors of the fabric. The patterns of the quilting reflect the textured surfaces that can be found on leaves when they are magnified. I designed and painted custom binding fabric especially for this quilt.
