Design Concept

This is part of a series in which 1/2" constructed tucks are incorporated into a patterned background. This is also the ninth piece in which black & white checks are juxtaposed against a full spectrum of rainbow colors. A Rainbow color gradation is used on the right sides of the ½” tucks. On the left sides the outside tucks are black and the middle tucks are white. In-between I used a ½” black and white stripe fabric that ends up looking like checks on the tucks. The tucks are then twisted from side to side, creating the illusion of movement and light. The colorful checks in the background were created by overdyeing a 1” black and white stripe in a 24 shade rainbow gradation.

The center diamonds were created by piecing some of the 1” black and white striped fabric into the background strips.

The dimensional center is surrounded by a narrow border of black and white checks, followed by a wide, radiating border that alternates stripes between the background checks and the rainbow gradation used on the right side of the tucks.
