Design Concept

At a busy intersection in Bali, I snapped this picture, which included a girl in a black and white striped dress and red hat. I was drawn to the graphic impact of her figure, which made her stand out among the many other elements vying for attention in the scene. I decided to use her in a simple graphic study in black, white, and red.

The figure was printed on an ink-jet printer. I borrowed lines from the crosswalk for the striped areas, which are pieced from fabrics dyed in light to dark gradations of red and black. The patterned, grey fabrics are from my Atmospheres collection for Benartex.
