Design Concept
A visit to the Great Barrier Reef of Australia in October
of 1989, and the subsequent purchase of a book of underwater
photography, opened my eyes to the marvelous world of color,
pattern, and movement that exists beneath the surface of the
sea. This is the first in a series of works inspired by these
visual images. Although this quilt does not depict any specific
species of fish, my design grew out of a series of pencil
sketches I made of a sand diver fish (Trichonotus Nikii).
