Design Concept:

This is one of a series of quilts, exploring the illusion of overlapping transparent triangles. Some of the triangles were pieced from strips of fabric, hand dyed in a gradation from black to white. The other triangles were cut from solid black and a hand painted black and white fabric.
The triangles were assembled into two squares and then cut into horizontal strips. The strips of the two squares were alternated when they were sewn back together. This creates the illusion of more than one triangle occupying the same space. A narrow border of black surrounds the center triangles, followed by a wider border of dye painted fabric in black white and grey. A binding of solid black finishes the quilt. In contrast to the geometry of the pieced design, the quilting was done in a freeform, swirling, organic design with black thread.
