Concept
This is one of a series of quilts in which three dimensional, constructed tucks are incorporated into a pieced background. The background fabric is a print of autumn leaves. This was sliced into strips and reassembled with a tuck in each seam allowance.
Each of the 1/2" "tucks” was constructed from two different fabrics. A gradation of jewel tones from blue to purple to fuchsia was used on the right sides of the tucks, and gold metallic fabric was used on the left sides. The use of color gradations, and the twisting of the tucks from side to side, create the illusion of movement and light across the surface of the quilt. A radiating, string-pieced border draws the eye into the center. In the border the strips alternate between the autumn leaf print and the purple gradation. The back of the quilt is pieced from various commercial fabrics.
