This the fifth in a series of 12" x 12" miniatures made in 2020 and based on my previous original designs. This one is based on my quilt, Yellow-billed Hornbill which was pieced, appliqued, and quilted in 2011 and was based on an original photograph I took in South Africa in 2000.
A photograph of the unquilted top was was printed on cotton fabric by Spoonflower. It was machine quilted with many different colors of thread.
Because of the reduction in scale, it often takes
as long to quilt a miniature as it took to quilt the original, larger quilt. The backing and binding fabric, from my Tye-Dye collection for Benartex, was one of the fabrics used in the original 2011 quilt. |
