Design
Concept
This is the eighth quilt in a series in which constructed tucks are incorporated into a pieced background. The background in constructed from two black and white tropical prints, (negative and positive of each other) and alternating strips of solid black and white fabric. The tucks are constructed with a color gradation from green to blue to purple to fuchsia on one side and either black of white on the other side. The tucks are twisted and stitched down with the quilting line to create the illusion of movement across the surface of the quilt. The color gradation was hand-dyed with fiber-reactive dyes. The traditional quilt block on the back of this contemporary-design quilt is my tribute to the anonymous quilt artists of the past. |
