Design
Concept
This quilt is one of a series of quilts based on a series of original drawings of fantasy feathers. The designs for the “Feather Study” quilts have evolved into simple reflections of various patterns found in many different places in nature. They could also have come from birds, plants, butterflies, or underwater creatures.

The background is a one-of-a-kind, hand-painted fabric, and the other colored fabrics are from Caryl’s Gradation collection by Benartex. A black and white checked fabric was added. A pebbly pattern was quilted into the dots with thread that matches the fabrics behind the dots. A feather pattern was quilted into the background fabric.
The back of this quilt was pieced from fabrics left over from the front. |
