| The design for the center of this quilt was
inspired by looking through a kaleidoscope. I wanted it to
be somewhat floral, so I designed abstract poppies for each
corner of the center panel. The curve of the poppies echoes
the curved piecing of the kaleidoscope design. The outer border
was designed to extend and enhance the center. The entire
design was drawn to scale on graph paper and colored in several
color combinations before the piecing began. The outer borders
fall into the ":four patch" category for drafting
purposes, and the individual templates were made, using the
paper folding method. This is the first quilt in which I used curved
seams. It is also the first quilt I ever entered in a show,
the first quilt that won a national award, and the first of
my quilts to be published. Exhibitions
