Indonesia Trip: October-November 2014
.
The final big event of our year in 2014 was a 3-week trip, in October and November, to Indonesia, together with good friends, Alden and Karin Mead, who were colleagues of Ron’s at the University of Minnesota for many years.  Of the 6000 inhabited islands in Indonesia, we visited Bali, perhaps the most famous, and Java, the most populated.  Bali was more enjoyable, mostly because the traffic was horrendous in Java—especially in the capital, Jakarta.  However, both islands provided rich cultural experiences, with wonderful hotels and great food.  Our first ten days we were with an Odyssey Tour. After the tour, we spent an extra four days exploring the art centers of Bali on our own, staying at a wonderful resort called Amori Villa. We returned with thousands of pictures. For a slide show of just a few of our favorites, click here.

Bryerpatch Studio on Baycliff Place, Port Townsend, WA • September, 2014
.

Several people have requested pictures of my new studio, so here they are....so far. Click on each picture for a larger image.
We are on an acre of forest with the bluff, overlooking Port Townsend Bay (Puget Sound) at the back of the house. My studio has big windows on both ends, providing views of both the forest and the water. The fabric on the shelves is all from the various collections I have designed for Benartex.

Front window of the studio looks out into the driveway and the forest. The stained glass piece above the window is the custom transom from my gallery in Paducah. The rear window of the studio looks out over the water, with snow-covered, Mount Baker visible in the distance on clear days. The Elfa units behind the machines in photo 2 hold fabric and my quilting thread collection. The ironing board is made from a hollow-core door with drawer stacks underneath.

This view of the sunrise with mount baker in the distance was taken one morning in August. We installed gallery lighting, walled over a fireplace, and turned our "formal" livingroom into a gallery. We are also able to expand the gallery display space into the diningroom without impinging on our regular living space.

Moving Day at Bryerpatch Studio West
.
The moving van from Paducah arrived at 9am on June 7,2014 and the unpacking began. The big truck couldn't make the turn into our driveway, so they had two extra trucks to ferry everything up to the house. Everything was unloaded and moved in by 4pm. Now the fun begins!! It was an absolutely perfect day, with a beautiful regatta of sailboats going on outside our windows, so we took a couple of shots out the window rather than photographing the stacks of boxes inside. We'll post more picture when we get the inside a little more organized.

BRYERPATCH QUILT WEEK EXHIBITION: 2014
My solo exhibition, “30 Quilts for 30 Years”, will be on display in our gallery March 15-April 26.  During Quilt Week we will add a guest exhibition of 30” quilts by our talented Quilt Week crew.

Caryl's brand new collection of fabric from Benartex will be here, and only here until after Spring Quilt Market.
Be the first in your group to own it:

The original, one-of-a-kind hand painted fabric, upon which this collection is based will also be hanging in the gallery.

BARGAINS:
We will be closing out many of our fabrics, notions, and patterns during quilt week and we plan to have different items on our bargain table every day, so stop in often.

After we close our shop and internet store, Paper Pieces will be selling our fabric and patterns. They plan to open in June 2014.

In January of 2014, Ron and I traveled first to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands to see the exotic wildlife and then to Peru to see Machu Picchu and other ancient Incan ruins.
