New Quilts: February 2015 |
Below are three quilts finished in February. Reflections of Cowichan #2 is a reverse image of Reflections of Cowichan #1 which was completed in January. After expanding my pallette temporarily into the neutral zone, I retreated for the next quilt into the brilliant rainbow colors I love so much. Duet #4 is in the style of my 2000 AQS Best of Show quilt and will be in the last two venues of my traveling exhibit "30 quilts for 30 Years". Click below to see the whole story of each of these quilts. |

Duet #4 |

After making a very complex piece like Duet #4 (below), I like to make an “instant gratification” quilt, one that can be made in a couple of days. Cattywampus Log Cabin #5 is the third quilt I have finished in February. |

Quilt Cradle Instructions: January 24, 2015 |
One of the most frequently-asked questions I hear is about the system of clamps and pulleys that hangs over my sewing machine. I use it when I do free-motion quilting. It suspends the part of the quilt you are not working on in the air, reducing the amount of weight you are moving with your hands, and making it easier to control the part you are working on. I have written a complete explanation with detailed pictures. There is even a printable version you can take to the hardware store with you. Click here for the whole story.

January 11, 2015: Celebrating Our Second Wedding Anniversary in Seattle |
We began our year by celebrating our second anniversary with three days in Seattle, enjoying music, great food, and lots of walking. We stayed near the Pike Place Market with a wonderful view over the harbor. The first picture below was taken from our hotel rooftop. In the distance you can see the market, ferris wheel, ferry landing, and the harbor where the big container ships come in. The second picture was taken later that night from our hotel room. |
